Chicago, IL — Alianza Americas condemns the assassination of right-wing activist, Charlie Kirk. Political violence is the reflection of the erosion of the social contract. Unnecessary aggressive rhetoric and actions against those with opposing political ideas has brought us here. Alianza Americas calls on leaders at the federal, state and local levels to set a clear example with their own words and actions. Political differences must be addressed within the democratic system. The United States cannot continue in this dangerous downward spiral.

This is not the first wake-up call. This is yet another incident within a worrying symptom of the condition of democracy in the United States. All people in this country have inherent dignity and rights, and the respect and protection of these rights sets the standard of the political life of the country. We call on all political leaders to lead with responsibility and care for all people.

Love is our resistance. Community is our power.
