Fiscal Inequality and Tax Justice: A Rights-Based Perspective from Central America

2025

Central America faces a crisis of structural inequality. Far from closing gaps, the region's tax systems deepen them. While a teacher needs 25 years of work to earn what the 17 richest people accumulate in a single hour, millions of families are taxed on essential goods like medicine and staple foods like beans.

This stark reality is the focus of the report "More Resources for More Rights," prepared by Oxfam, which exposes how tax injustice is stealing the future of an entire region.

Join us for this presentation event, where experts will analyze the report's findings and discuss alternative pathways toward a fairer, more equitable tax model for Central America.

Event organized by Alianza Americas and Oxfam in Central America.

Panelists:

  • Leana Corea, Coordinator of the Climate Justice and Indigenous Peoples axis, Oxfam
  • Ricardo Barrientos, Executive Director of the Central American Institute for Fiscal Studies (ICEFI)

This event will be held in Spanish with English interpretation.
