United States — Today, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), Center for Popular Democracy Action, CASA in Action, LA RED/Faith in Action, FIRM Action, FWD.us, Make the Road Action, Mijente, NAKASEC, SEIU, the United Farm Workers, United We Dream, and Alianza Americas led a coalition of organizations in a national day of action to call for quick, bold action in the early days of the Biden-Harris administration to protect immigrants.

“We chose a new vision for our country, one that begins with a roadmap to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants and begins to course correct the harm endured by our communities for the past four years of an administration that was cruel and careless with the lives of immigrants and refugees,” said Sulma Arias, spokesperson for FIRM Action. “Campaign promises are not enough and the new administration must work with Congress and directly impacted people”.

As part of the newly formed “We Are Home” coalition, the groups organized more than 50  events in 27 states, including caravans, vigils, virtual and in-person press conferences and rallies. The day of action centered on key demands to transform America’s immigration system, including the need to undo the damage caused by the Trump administration, issue a moratorium on deportations, and create a roadmap to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

Actions took place in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The day of action is the first joint event of the new “We are Home” coalition that will formally launch in early 2021.
