New Data Shows Immigrants Fuel the US Booming Economy and Activists say new immigration laws should capitalize on this trend.

Chicago, IL – Alianza Americas and other Latino Activists argue a bold restructuring of immigration laws will build on the booming economy in the United States. This is a historic opportunity to create prosperity and hope for the entire country for decades to come that should not be wasted. The lead from  the Washington Post story is very clear: “Immigration has propelled the U.S. job market further than just about anyone expected, helping cement the country’s economic rebound from the pandemic as the most robust in the world.”

“The appropriate response to recent migration flows should be centered on the hospitable and humane reception of men, women, and children arriving at the southern border of the United States, the granting of an immediate interim measure of immigration protection, and importantly the immediate issuance of work permits,” said Oscar Chacón, Alianza Americas Executive Director.

“Additionally, there should be a highly coordinated strategy, involving local, state, and federal government agencies working on the relocation of those migrants to various parts of the country where it makes social and employment sense for them to be. We challenge all decent and fair people to reimagine all the good migrants can do and will do for our society, if we are courageous enough to live what our country stands for,” added Chacón.

“The U.S. is on a demographic trend that points toward a declining domestic population, including the working-age population. This suggests that the country needs more foreign-born individuals to balance the declining population trend.”  Said Dulce Dominguez, Alianza Americas Deputy Director of Institutional Development.

“Therefore, policies of blind deterrence of migration flows are foolish, contrary to national interests, and wasteful of precious public resources,” added  Dominguez.
