Celebrating solidarity and networks of care among immigrant communities.
Celebrating solidarity and networks of care among immigrant communities.
In Latin American countries, entire families and communities rely heavily on networks of support to meet the multiple demands of life. Values and traditions of care extend beyond borders, and immigrant communities, from what is now known as Latin America, have established similar networks of care in the United States to navigate the many challenges that come with being an immigrant in this country.
Dominant narratives in U.S. media and culture often invisibilize the power and significance of these care communities.
Caring is Healing is a narrative change campaign highlighting critical aspects of the care systems in immigrant communities, including the vital role of women, cultural traditions, and our value as diverse and complex human beings.
First Two Years
In the campaigns first two years, Alianza Americas collaborated with three of its member organizations: Centro Romero, in Chicago; Comunidades Indígenas en Liderazgo, in Los Angeles; and Familias Unidas en Acción, in New Orleans to identify and uplift stories that demonstrate these networks of care and collective healing.
Now entering a new phase of the project, Alianza Americas’ seeks to strengthen the narrative infrastructure of our network to help expand our reach and grow the number of immigrant-led organizations promoting new narratives as told directly by our communities.
Watch the stories born as part of Caring is Healing from year 1-2 of the project:
