Global Reflections on Inclusion, Migration, and Community
Global Reflections on Inclusion, Migration, and Community
In September 2025, Alianza Americas brought together experts, academics, and human rights advocates in Chicago for an in-person conference dedicated to analyzing the challenges and opportunities of migrant inclusion in diverse local and national contexts.
During two days of dialogue, participants explored how social class, discrimination, and exclusion affect the trajectories of migrants and, at the same time, weaken the fabric of the community as a whole. The discussions addressed the role of schools as key spaces for the integration of newly arrived families, the importance of values-based education from early childhood to combat xenophobia, and the need for inclusive public policies that address structural inequalities.
From this meeting emerged Somos Comunidad (We Are Community): Expert Voices, a series of video interviews with specialists who delve into topics such as inclusion policies, social inequality, childhood and youth, and local governance. Drawing on concrete experiences from around the world, including the Global South, this series shares lessons learned, effective models, and replicable approaches that demonstrate how inclusive policies benefit the entire community, not just migrants.
We invite you to watch each interview and explore the complete series to learn about the voices, ideas, and proposals that are shaping more just and inclusive communities.
